“Arogya Jagar”: Health camp, organ donation lecture and CPR training program successful.

Pune, : Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pune successfully organized a one-day awareness program on the topic of “Arogya Jagar”. The program included a health camp for students, an organ donation awareness lecture, and an emergency medical first aid (CPR) training session. The program was supported by DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, Pune. More than 300 students participated in the program enthusiastically. The main objective of this initiative was to create health awareness among students, readiness to help in emergency situations, and social awareness about organ donation.

The inaugural ceremony of the program was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. Seema Jagade (Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pune) and Dr. Vrishali Patil, Head and Director, Department of Organ Donation and Transplantation, DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, Pune.

The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vinod Mohitkar, Director, Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai and President, Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Research Society, Pune, and Dr. D. V. Jadhav, Joint Director, Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Pune.
In the Organ Donation Awareness Lecture, Dr. Vrishali Patil, Head and Director, Organ Donation and Transplantation Department, DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, Pune, guided the attendees. She said that organ donation is a humanitarian and life-giving act and can save the lives of many patients. Donating organs like kidney, liver, heart, lungs, cornea, skin and intestines gives a new lease of life to patients waiting for transplantation. Proper information, legal consent and awareness create a sense of social responsibility, humanity and life values in the society. She said that the decision to donate organs is a positive decision that gives light of hope in the lives of others even after death.

In the Emergency Medical First Aid Training Program, Dr. Arjun H, Assistant Professor, Dr. DY Patil Medical College, Hospital, Pimpri, Pune, provided in-depth information and training on the process of resuscitating the heart and lungs (CPR). He said that in case of sudden cardiac arrest, CPR in the first few minutes is an important tool for saving lives. During the training, the students were also given the opportunity to practice the correct method of chest compression, the process of giving breaths, and recognizing emergency situations. This instilled confidence and a sense of responsibility among the students in emergency situations.

“It is very important for students to pay attention to their health while pursuing a career in the hotel management and catering sector. Along with professional education by acquiring professional skills, it is necessary to be aware of social responsibility. Taking the pledge of organ donation while maintaining social commitment and being prepared as a ‘lifesaver’ through techniques like ‘CPR’ is the need of the hour. Under this initiative, health check-ups of the students were conducted. These included hemoglobin, blood sugar, blood pressure, ECG, eye, ear, nose and throat, gynecology and dermatology, and heart disease check-ups. Along with this, medicines and necessary guidance were also provided. ABHA card registration of the students was also done during the program.
